Conductor-Composer Darius Lim is Founder & Artistic Director of Voices of Singapore Choral Society & Festival. He is Music Director of Voco Singapore Ladies Choir and Principal Conductor of the Voices of Singapore Children's Choir. He is one of the most sought-after Singaporean choral conductor-composers working today, and is most known for his unique infusion of lyrical, dramatic, instrumental, and theatrical elements in both the choirs he directs as well as his choral music. He has built his career on the vision of building a ‘Singing Singapore’ – where all Singaporeans appreciate and enjoy all forms of singing – through creating, innovating, inventing, touching and inspiring people from all walks of life through music.
Darius Lim was the first Asian Choral Conductor to have been accepted into the National Conservatorium of Wales: The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and graduated with a masters in choral conducting with distinction. A student of the renowned BBC Chorusmaster Neil Ferris, Darius Lim has more than 40 awards in choral, piano and composition to his name.
With a strong belief in instilling lifelong appreciation for choral music and promoting Singaporean music, Darius has carved a reputation as an advocate of choral music whose choirs and works inspire, engage, educate and entertain audiences around the world. He has given lectures on choral conducting at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the School of the Arts, Singapore. He has also given conducting and choir workshops in Singapore, America, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and United Kingdom. Choirs under Lim’s direction have shared the stage with some of the world’s most celebrated groups that include the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Philomela (Finland), the Hong Kong Children’s Choir, and the University of London Chamber Choir. Youth and children’s choirs under Lim's baton have been presented in numerous national events such as the Singapore Youth Festival Opening & Closing concerts, Singapore Youth Festival Presentations, Singapore Youth Festival Celebrations, Aseanapol in Harmony Celebrations and Singapore Youth Festival International Night.
Lim’s extensive work in the choral art includes chorus-master for Humperdinck’s Hansel & Gretel with the Orchestra of the Music Makers, John Sharpley’s Fences- An Opera in Two Acts, Aseanapol in Harmony, Unity in Diversity and Phua Chu Kang The Musical. He has sung with renowned choirs such as the BBC Chorus of Wales and Cardiff Polyphonic Choir. He has held former posts as Associate Choirmaster of the Singapore Symphony Children’s Choir and Music Director of the National University of Singapore Society Choir. In the past decade, he has risen to prominence in the national and international music scene with more than 40 national and international awards that include Gold medals, 1st and 2nd Prizes, Category Champions, and other special prizes in both local and international choral and composition competitions. Lim has also adjudicated numerous international choral competitions as jury member and is a highly sought after international choral clinician.
Darius Lim is the only Singaporean composer whose compositions are internationally published by Edition Peters, the same publishers of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart. His music has been performed extensively by thousands of singers around the globe. He was the youngest elected President of the Choral Directors’ Association of Singapore when he was 29. He currently sits on the council of the Asia Pacific Choral Council as the Singapore Representative and is currently the Deputy General Secretary of the National Instructors and Coaches Association of Singapore.
