First Children’s Choir from Singapore to Make Carnegie Hall Debut

The Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir at their annual concert.

Singapore, April 11, 2023 – Voices of Singapore Children's Choir has been formally invited by National Concerts to perform at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York on June 10, 2023. The invitation comes as a privilege - National Concerts actively auditions and selects ensembles to perform in renowned venues across the United States, while Voices of Singapore was invited to perform without audition

As the first Singaporean children’s choir invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir will showcase a unique mix of local Singaporean works and choral classics, including choral arrangements of Singaporean folk tunes and international

choral works written by Artistic Director and Composer-Conductor Darius Lim. The choir's trip to New York will also include a series of educational events for the children such as: choir exchanges with local American choirs, educational tours of New York City, professional development opportunities with an exclusive tour of The Juilliard School, and a solo concert at the famous St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York.

National Concerts auditions and selects the best choral and instrumental ensembles around the world to perform in renowned concert venues across the United States. The choir's selection is a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication, as they were recommended by a chorus conductor who had watched their performances online.

The choir has been rehearsing tirelessly for their upcoming performances in New York, and the young singers are thrilled at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Many of the choristers have not performed overseas before, and these young musicians have long known about the prestige of performing at the historic Carnegie Hall. The choir will be premiering their tour repertoire on homeground at the Voices of Singapore Fundraising Concert on 6 May 2023 before leaving for New York.

"We are incredibly honoured to have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall," said the Artistic Director, Dr. Darius Lim. "It is a rare and invaluable opportunity for our singers at such a young age and an international recognition of the hard work and dedication of the choir. This invitation represents a bigger milestone that presents the high level of children’s singing in Singapore as well as our music."

The choir's upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall marks a momentous milestone since their inception in 2019. The Voices of Singapore Children's Choir looks forward to a memorable performance at Carnegie Hall and to sharing their music with the wider audience.
