Voices of Singapore appoints Chong Wai Lun as Associate Artistic Director

Voices of Singapore (VOS) announces the appointment of Chong Wai Lun as Associate Artistic Director. Chong holds three master's degrees: a Master in Kodaly Music Pedagogy from Liszt Academy Kodály Institute, a Master in Choral Conducting from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a Master of Music (Conducting) from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
Chong's expertise spans across an array of vocal genres – from symphonic choruses to community choirs, professional ensembles and a cappella groups. Chong is on faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as an adjunct lecturer and serves as the conductor of the YST Chamber Singers. He is also the bass of iconic local a cappella group, Vocaluptuous.

Darius Lim, Artistic Director of VOS, says, "Chong Wai Lun is one of the most talented conductors on the local scene. Given his multifaceted skillset, inspiring approach to music-making and love for building musical communities, we believe he will be a big contributor to VOS' mission of Inspiring a Singing Singapore. We warmly welcome him and are excited to be working with him."

In his new role, Chong will join the Artistic Director to lead the VOS Choral Society. He will conduct both artistic excellence and community choirs in select concert seasons, as well as craft new singing programmes and projects to engage Singaporeans from all walks of life.

Debut Concert of VOS Choral Scholars

Voices of Singapore Children's Choir is proud to present “When Winter Fades”, the first full concert by the Choral Scholars to be held on 9 September 2021 at the historical Chijmes Hall. The Choral Scholars are a select group of singers from the VOS Children’s Concert Choir trained under the direction of Artistic Director, Darius Lim. The concert is a part of the Voices of Singapore Festival 2021, with this year’s edition being presented in a hybrid format for the first time, featuring both digital and on-site programmes. It is also the first public live performance staged by VOS since the circuit breaker.
The World Alliance of Children’s Choirs launches 1 August 2021

The World Alliance of Children’s Choirs will be launched across seven countries and three continents at 2100hrs Singapore Time (GMT+8) on Sunday. This global alliance of seven children’s choirs aims to mould, nurture, unite and inspire children of the world through singing. The WACC will be providing accessible global opportunities for alliance choirs starting with upcoming virtual workshops, followed by potential festivals and international choral exchange opportunities for both choristers, conductors and choirs that are currently in development.
VOS x MSC: Navigating the Pandemic Free Webinar: Overcoming COVID 19 Fatigue through Song

The Navigating the Pandemic webinar is a free online programme jointly organised by Voices of Singapore and Mind Science Centre. Featuring 3 expert speakers, this webinar will aim to enhance mental resilience and help with overcoming COVID-19 fatigue through song, touching on topics such as COVID-19 and its effects on children, vaccination for teenagers as well as singing and mental health.
Voices of Singapore Presents: A World Together

Non-profit organisation Voices of Singapore, in collaboration with HealthServe has produced a music video of “If We Hold On Together”, originally sung by Diana Ross. Titled “A World Together”, it presents the voices of the migrant worker community, accompanied by a 180-strong virtual choir from the Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir, the HealthServe team and healthcare workers. The project is supported by the National Integration Council (Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth), Singapore Kindness Movement, SDI Academy and Ad Planet Group.
